Board of Directors Meeting Notes

The meeting was held at Barleys at 5 p.m. on Sunday 6/28/09

In all, approximately 25 people attended the meeting & social hour.  18 members and 7 non-members.

 

Board of Directors report:

 

-  42 members now in SMBS

-  Bank account was established.  Starting balance was $1420.

- Corporate Charter has been accepted by the Tennessee Department of State

- SMBS is now recognized as a 501(c)3 by the State

- Federal EIN number has been established

- Mike Feeback is in the process of establishing non profit status with IRS (federal)

- Website Domain has been secured – www.smokymountainblues.org

- SMBS members receive a $2 discount at Live after Five shows through August

- SMBS members receive a 10% discount at Brackins

            Nothing new to report

 

Entertainment Committee Repot

Tim Spencer reported that we are still on track to do four shows a year (one per quarter).  May add some shows.  Tim stressed the need for more musicians in the society.

 

Membership Committee Report

Dave Mills reported that the membership drive at Larry McCray show was a success.  The goal was 25 new members and we picked up 26

 

New Business

 

SMBS voted to reimburse Herman Long for the cost of meal for Larry McCray band.  The cost is less than $60.  In a related expense, Brackins paid $600 towards the $650 cost of the band.  Herman had given the band the missing $50 so the SMBS will reimburse Herman the $50.

 

SMBS voted to underwrite the Johnnie Mack Blues Attack on WDVX at a proposed cost of $10./month.  SMBS will begin the underwriting after the SMBS website is functional as the site can be mentioned on the air.

 

SMBS voted to renew our annual membership with the Blues Foundation at a cost of $100.  John McCormack (Johnnie Mack) will handle the renewal for the society. 

 

The next meeting of the Blues Society will be Sunday, July 26th at Wild Wings Café off of Campbell Station road in West Knoxville.  4-5 social hour, 5-6 meeting.
