MeetingMinutes
3/20/11
Themeeting was held at the home of Candice Eagle.
Aquorum was established. The meeting began at approximately 4:00 p.m.
9people attended. 6 board members were present, Mike Feeback wasabsent
Presidents Report
Abenefit for Ed Corts will take place at Patrick Sullivans on April2nd to help defray medical bills. It was proposed thatthe Society sponsor a table for $100 in exchange for allowing a to be determined number of members to attend. Merchandise will not besold. This passed unanimously.
Itwas proposed to do a benefit show for Leo Schmeid on Sunday, April17th at 4 p.m. Brackins to help defray upcoming medicalbills. Higginbotham will get in touch with Smokin' Section andNorthshore to see if they would play, possibly have a short jamafterwards. Randy Ross will get in touch with Mark about using theclub. All monies collected would go towards the medical bills. Thebands will not be paid. This passed unanimously.
Itwas proposed to move future meetings to a non-smoking public venuewhere we could have meetings followed by an acoustic jam open toplayers under 21. Except where it conflicts with the existing eventswe would hold the meetings the second Sunday of every month. TomHurwitz will check with Sullivans in Knoxville, Higginbotham willcheck with Sullivans and Smoky Mountain Brewery in Maryville.
Amotion was made to budget $100 for Diane to use for printing. Thispassed unanimously.
TomHurwitz will talk to Leonard Price about identifying pictures fromlast years Blues Cruise series that could be used this year foradvertising.
Weneed sponsors for the Blues Cruise series. $100 sponsorships will berewarded with 2 tickets to a cruise of the sponsors' choice alongwith two t-shirts. Sponsors need to be identified by the 2ndweek of April. Contact Diane Michel for details. All members areencouraged to reach out and secure sponsors. Note - the society canalways use sponsors for any of its' events. Contact Randy Ross forsponsoring events other than Blues Cruises (Brackins shows, 9/11Blues Festival Weekend, etc.)
Wehave an opportunity to sponsor a Bob Margolin show at Brackins on May6th. Brackins and the Society will split the cost of theband along with the monies collected at the door. A motion was made.This passed unanimously.
Amotion was made to budget $125 per month for the next three months(April, May & June) to advertise SMBS shows in the Metropulse. This passed unanimously.
PatThompson volunteered to put together a media list for the society touse for advertising purposes. It was reiterated that we still need agood press kit.
2. Entertainment Committee
RandyRoss reported that the 3/9/11John Primer show at Brackins was wellreceived and made a profit of $117.
Thebands have bee identified for the Summer Blues Cruise series. Theyare as follows:
May1st 3 p.m. - Blue Mother Tupelo
May22nd 3 p.m. - Elm Street Blues Band
June19th 3 p.m. (Fathers Day Cruise) – BlueStone withSteve and Danny Lee Michel.
July24th 3 p.m. - Northshore (featuring Michael Jordan)
August21st 6-9 (Evening Cruise) – Labron Lazenby
September11th 3 p.m. (Part of Blues Festival Weekend) – Jennaand Her Cool Friends.
October9th 3 p.m – West Side Cats (featuring GeoffTrabalka)
October30th 3 p.m. - R.J. Mischo (backed by Smokin' Section)
3. General
DianeMichel expressed the need to put together a merchandising committee. Please contact Diane if you are interested in participating.
Weneed to have membership tables set up at events whenever possible. Again contact Diane if you are interested in participating. Higginbotham will confirm that the Society can have a table at theupcoming Atomic City Blues Festival in Oak Ridge. It was discussedthat whenever opportunity allows we should have tables at eventsoutside of our immediate area such as the Riverwalk in Chatanooga ifany members would be interested in doing this.
Thesociety is putting on 3 shows at Brackins in April
Saturday,4/16 Studebaker John $10 cover, $7 for members.
Sunday,4/17 Benefit for Leo Schmeid (see preceeding)
Tuesday,4/19 Guitar Shorty $10 cover, $7 for members.
