Randy reported on our BBQ entry in the benefit for
Helen Ross McNabb Center at the Harley Davidson Shed.
Many thanks
to Doug Shanklin for cooking and to the others who helped with
this.
There was a $250 entry fee, approximately $250 was spent on
meats, $60 spent on paper products (plates, etc.)
We placed 5th on
Ribs, 7th on pulled pork, 13th on Chicken out of 23 entrants
Many
people stopped at our booth and picked up membership brochures.
The general consensus is that was good publicity with the proceeds
going to an excellent cause.
Candice Eagle presented a paper
pointing out flaws in our business process as it related to the
recent re-editing of our membership brochures. The main lesson
learned was that we should have left this project up to the people
who had done it in the first place based on discussions and input
recieved at board meetings. The re-edit was handled via email -
outside of this process - and led to mistakes being made.
Mistakes have been made on other items which may or may not have been
caught if they were reviewed before publishing. Candice also
pointed out that a great deal of effort was put into the new
brochure which may have been better spent developing our press kit
which will allow us to better approach potential sponsors. The
lesson here is that we can do better jobs both in prioritizing and
then executing our priorities.
Two motions that were presented
but not seconded as we ran out of time were:
1) Items
requiring SMBS expenditures (over $25) on items that represent the
SMBS in print de discussed and approved at a business meeting before
they are developed.
2) At least 3 Board members, or
their designee, review all items that represent the SMBS in print
before printing or release.
The meeting ended at 2 p.m.
The
next meeting will be devoted to planning for the Blues Festival at
Nolichucky Vineyard. it is scheduled for Tuesday, June 21st, 6
p.m. at the Blount County Library in Meeting Room A (Later today
depending on what time you read this email)
