CD Review – ZAC Harmon – From the Root

July 2009 – blue barry – smoky mountain blue society

Well here it is blues lovers..........the best CD Zac Harmon has ever made!  I mean from top to bottom just killer.  Fourteen cuts of just great stuff.  Not only is Zac “on”, but he has tons of great people sitting in.  I saw Zac a couple of years ago at a New Years Eve party and he was plenty good.  This CD however is the best I have ever heard him.  You better check this one out.  If you can’t find it go to www.zacharmon.com and you will.  It’s a great website too.  Now to the music.  “Don’t Give Me Another Reason” opens up the CD and it is just blues guitar at it’s best.  “Hattie Mae” has some of the best harp on it that I have heard this year, with some spectacular blowing by Jimmy Z.  I mean spectacular.  Jimmy is also on a couple of other cuts.  This guy is for real.  “Back Bitin’ Back Stabbers” is another killer guitar piece, followed by a reggae sounding piece “That’s What a Woman Needs.”  I love reggae, and these reggae cuts really add to the music.  Not that hip hop stuff, but old school reggae.  You will like it.  Crisp guitar licks, just great.  Thanks for that addition Zac.  The longest cut, over seven and a half minutes, is “The Price of Lovin’ You” is a great slow blues.  I also like “Honey Bee,” and the last acoustic blues cut on the CD “Man Is Not To Be Alone.”  Yea, that Honey Bee is stinging me too.  Every song is good.  The BEST Zac has done.  The summer just got better.   Better give this one a listen.  One love, blue barry
